Bedford Hills Correctional Facility: Children's Center

One goal of the Children's Center is to provide quality time to children and their inmate mothers so that the mother-child bonds are strengthened. Host families house these children during their stay. Through the Center's "Sponsor-a-Baby" Program, volunteers help to meet the needs of babies born at the facility who must leave their mothers and join families who are unable to provide for them.

What Our Church Does: Our church is on call to sponsor a young baby when it is ready to leave BHCF. We outfit the baby and see that donated equipment reaches the child's new home.

What You Can Do:
  • Host a child for four days in the summer
  • Work with mothers and children at the Children's Center
  • Provide snacks
  • Work in the Parenting Office
  • Become a child advocate by helping mothers take steps to ensure their children's welfare
When: As requested by the facilty; ongoing

Volunteers: Adult, Family
