Rural and Migrant Ministry

This organization is a non-profit, multi-faith association that has supported migrant workers in eastern New York since 1981. Farm workers in our state are excluded from the basic protections afforded many other workers, including: access to toilets in the fields, a day of rest, disability insurance, overtime pay and the right to bargain collectively over working conditions and wages.

What Our Church Does: Financial support to improve housing and provide necessities, tutoring, youth programs, English language instruction, leadership training for workers and their families, and information about pesticides and their effects. Further help is offered in terms of legislative advocacy in Albany to obtain just treatment for workers.

What You Can Do:
  • Collect items for their summer camp, i.e., sporting goods, blankets, towels, craft items, etc.
  • At Christmas, donate new toys, new clothes and books for their Holiday Store
When: Ongoing
